Black Maxi Dress
A black maxi dress made for the evenings that ask for one. Fine ruched mesh, a high neck, cap sleeves and a single curved cut-out at the waist. One idea, carried well, and nothing else competing with it.
Design and fabric
The bodice is gathered all over in narrow soft folds that run in from the shoulders and meet in a chevron down the centre front. It dips to a point at the waist, and the skirt picks the line up again just below, so one curved opening sits between the two. Everything else stays closed. The back is covered from the collar to the hem, there is no zip and no fastening, and the dress pulls on over the head.
Below the hip the skirt lets go and falls into a wide, fluid A-line that sweeps the floor. The shoulders and the top of the chest are a semi-sheer mesh. The skirt reads solid in ordinary light, though the cloth is fine enough that strong direct light will find its way through.
Fit
Close through the bodice and the waist, full from the thigh down. The mesh has stretch, so there is more give than the flat measurements suggest. Full measurements are in the Size guide next to the size selector. The dress is cut long on purpose: it is made to clear the floor in heels, and to pool a little without them.
