A black midi skirt with the pleats set wide and the swing left long.

Deep box pleats fall from a flat waistband, pressed for a hand's width and then let go, so the skirt reads clean across the top and moves properly below it. The cloth is matte and carries real weight, which is what keeps the pleats sitting where they should instead of collapsing by lunchtime. The back is plain and softly gathered on an elastic, the front carries the pleats and a pair of belt loops if you want to mark the waist.

The fit

Sits at the natural waist, flat across the front and elasticated across the back, so there is give without a zip to fight with. Close over the hip, then full to the hem. The length reads mid calf to just above the ankle depending on your height, and several customers have measured theirs a few centimetres shorter than the maker states, so take the length column in the size guide next to the size selector as a guide rather than a promise. The maker sizes this one by weight rather than by body measurement, and that guidance is in the size guide too. Sizes S to XL, UK 8 to 14.
