Brown Faux Leather Skirt - Shirred Waist Pocket Midi | Bagendon

A brown faux leather skirt that pulls straight on, sits high on the waist and opens out into a full A line, with two deep pockets to put your hands in.

The cloth is a faux leather: a smooth coated skin with a grain too fine to pick out and a soft low sheen, so it catches the light along the folds without ever looking wet or plastic. The waistband is a narrow band gathered on elastic the whole way round, which is what lets the skirt pull straight on: there is no zip, no button and no fastening of any kind. A slanted pocket is set into each side seam just below it, deep enough to be useful. One seam runs down the centre front, and low on the skirt, about two thirds of the way to the hem, a second seam runs level all the way round and releases the last of the width. Measured flat, the hem comes out at close on twice the width of the waistband, so it swings properly when you walk and settles into a few wide soft folds when you stop. The hem is one level line the whole way round. Wear it with a fine roll neck tucked in and flat loafers, or with a heavy jumper left loose over the top and boots.

The fit

This one comes in a single size. The maker publishes a waist of 62 to 82 cm, and that range is the stretch of the elastic: 62 cm is where the band sits at rest and 82 cm is as far as it will go. Read against the body, that covers UK 6 through to UK 14, which is our own reading of the maker's figure rather than a size the maker publishes, and we have stopped at 14 because 82 cm is full stretch rather than a comfortable fit. The waistband sits high, above the natural waist. On length the maker publishes no figure at all, so we measured the skirt ourselves on its photographs, against the relaxed waistband, and read about 77 cm: worn high that puts the hem at the middle of the calf, which is what the maker means by mid calf. • Wipe clean with a damp cloth and let it dry away from heat, our own recommendation as the maker gives no care instructions
