The brown trouser, with nothing on the front
Poulton keeps its fastening out of sight in the side seam, so the front is one clean sheet of cloth from the waistband down. Two deep pleats break on each side, the leg opens out and keeps opening, and the hem comes to rest on the shoe. A dry matte twill holds all of it in shape.
Fit
High on the natural waist on a plain tailored band. The leg is very wide and close to straight rather than flared: at the hem one leg on its own is about four fifths the width of the entire waistband, which is where the sweep comes from. Nothing at the waist stretches, so choose by your waist measurement rather than your usual label, and size up if you are between sizes. Sized S to L, which we map to UK 6 to 12. - Plain flat tailored waistband with belt loops, not elasticated
- Concealed zip in the side seam, and a completely flat centre front with no fly, no button and no visible hardware
- Two deep pressed pleats on each side of the centre front, running down into the leg
- One narrow vertical welt pocket set into each side seam
- A curved panel seam across the back and a plain seat with no back pockets
- Very wide, near-straight leg, full length, with a plain turned hem, no turn-up and no split
- Matte woven twill suiting with a fine diagonal grain, dry to the touch with no sheen
- Outside leg 100 to 104 cm depending on size
- In Russet, a deep red-brown
- Cool machine wash, warm iron, do not tumble dry
