Velvet, cut long and left alone
Siddington is a burgundy velvet dress that does the work on its own. The pile is short and dense, so the colour reads almost black down in the folds and lifts to a soft wine bloom wherever the light catches it. That is the whole argument: no print, no trim, no hardware. Two fine straps, a wide scoop neck, and a column of cloth that falls from the bust to the ankle without a seam at the waist.
Each strap runs through a small flat slider on the shoulder, so you set the drop once and it stays there. It sits close across the bust, then widens gently all the way down. Wear it over a fine roll neck with flat shoes in January, or on its own for an evening in December.
Fit
Close across the bust, then falling straight and opening gently into a soft A-line
Ankle length, not floor length: the maker gives 125 cm from the top of the bodice to the hem on a size S, and on the model the hem clears the floor by a good hand's width
Sleeveless, with fine self-fabric straps that adjust through a small slider at each shoulder
Seven sizes, UK 6 to 20, in the maker's own conversion
Roomy at the bottom of the size run and close at the top: the garment measures about 7 cm more than the body it is sized for up to UK 12, and close to nothing from UK 16 up, so read the garment bust before you choose
The velvet has a slight stretch to it

Details
Wide, shallow scoop neckline at the front
Fine self-fabric shoulder straps, each adjusted by a small flat slider sitting on the shoulder
No waist seam: the dress falls in one unbroken piece from the bust to the hem
The maker lists it as a pull-on style, and there is no fastening of any kind visible at the front or the side
Continuous hem, no slit and no vent
No pockets, no belt and nothing to tie
Short dense velvet pile, plain throughout, with no rib and no cord
The maker gives the composition only as synthetic fibre and shows no fabric label, and nothing in the specification mentions a lining
Colours: Shiraz and Black
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, hang to dry, do not tumble dry; press on the reverse with a cool iron if it needs it
Garment measurements in cm, taken flat and unstretched. Bust is the full measurement around the garment. Length runs from the top edge of the bodice to the hem and does not include the straps. UK sizes are the maker's own conversion: the garment allows about 7 cm over the body it is sized for up to UK 12, and close to nothing from UK 16 up, so check the garment bust against your own. Tolerance 2 to 3 cm.
