Cape Coat - Double-Faced Scarf Collar | Rissington

One wide sheet of brushed cloth, cut with a standing collar and a single scarf panel down the front. It goes on over whatever you are already wearing and asks nothing else of you.

Cut and cloth

This cape coat is cut from a double-faced cloth, two faces bonded back to back, so the inside reads as finished as the outside and there is no lining anywhere in it. The face is milled and brushed to a short dense nap, faintly heathered, matte all the way through. The collar stands up round the neck and folds back flat across the shoulders when you would rather it did. On the left it carries on into one flat panel that hangs down the front and stops square at the hip.

How it wears

There are no sleeves. Your arms sit under the cloth and come out through a long opening in each side seam, so a jumper or a shirt cuff shows at the wrist and the cape keeps its line. The front stays open, there is nothing to fasten, and each side falls away into a long point below the hip. Over a polo neck and straight trousers on a working day, over a dress when a coat would be too much. It is one size and it is cut to drape, so it sits the same way on a small frame and a larger one.
