Cashmere gloves for the ordinary cold. A fine rib from fingertip to cuff, a knitted tip at the thumb and forefinger so the phone still works, and a cuff long enough to disappear under a coat sleeve.
The knit
A close rib, worked the same way over the back of the hand and down each finger, so the glove draws in on itself and follows the hand instead of bagging at the knuckles. The yarn carries a faint halo, the soft blur you can see in the close-up rather than a flat hard twist. No lining, no seam across the palm: one light layer, made for the walk to the station rather than for a mountain.
The cuff
The cuff is the point of these. It carries on in the same rib for roughly a third of the glove, about 27 cm in total from fingertip to edge, so it covers the wrist bone and tucks under a sleeve with nothing bare in between. Nothing to fasten, nothing to adjust.
On the phone
The thumb and the forefinger of each glove finish in a pale grey conductive tip, knitted in rather than stuck on as a pad. A map, a message or a call at the bus stop, with your hands still covered.
Fit
- One size, cut generously and very stretchy, so it takes a small hand and a large one alike.
- Worth knowing. There is no elastane in this knit. On a small hand the palm can feel roomy, and on a long hand the fingers sit on the short side.
- About 27 cm from fingertip to cuff edge, measured flat. It is the one measurement we can stand behind, so it is the only one we give.
