Follow the care label on each piece. As a rule: cool wash, reshape and dry flat, keep away from direct heat.
A corduroy skirt cut long and A-line, with the deep angled pockets and the rivets of a work trouser.
The shape is made by seams, not by gathers. A flat waistband with belt loops sits at the natural waist, closed by a single antique brass button with a plain topstitched fly below it. From there the skirt runs clean over the hip and then opens steadily to the hem, which measures about one and a half times the width of the waistband, so it walks well for its length. The pockets are the detail worth having: one on each side, deep, the opening running at an angle from near the centre out to the side seam, with a small metal rivet holding each end. A single seam runs down the centre front from the fly to the hem, and the hem itself is folded and topstitched into one level line, with no slit and no vent. The ribs of the cord run straight down the skirt, and that is what gives it its quiet vertical line. Wear it with a fine knit tucked in and boots, or with a shirt and a jumper over the top.
The fit
This is a long skirt. Read off the maker's own photographs it comes to about 96 cm, which puts the hem on the lower calf, clear of the ankle bone, with the top of a boot showing below it. The waistband sits at the natural waist, and the cord has a little give in it, which is where the ease comes from. Six sizes, XS to XXL. The maker publishes the UK equivalents itself, XS as UK 6 through to XXL as UK 18, and those are the numbers in the size guide next to the size selector. One thing worth knowing before you choose: the maker publishes no garment measurements at all, so there are none we can show you, and its own advice is that the skirt is cut close and that you should take the next size up if you are between sizes or have fuller hips.
Details
Corduroy, with the ribs running the length of the skirt
Flat waistband with belt loops, sitting at the natural waist
One antique brass button at the centre front, with a plain topstitched fly below it
Two deep angled front pockets, each opening running from near the centre out to the side seam, with a metal rivet at each end
A single seam down the centre front, from the fly to the hem
Level hem, folded and topstitched, with no slit and no vent
About 96 cm long, our own measurement read off the maker's photographs rather than a figure it publishes
The maker gives the fabric as cotton, modal and viscose and publishes no percentages, and none of its photographs shows a composition label, so we pass those fibres on as its own rather than confirming them
The maker states that there are no back pockets. It publishes no photograph of the back of the skirt, so that is its word and not our own reading
The maker does not say whether the skirt is lined
Warm machine wash inside out and hang to dry, our own recommendation as the maker gives no care instructions
The maker publishes these UK equivalents but no garment measurements at all, so none are shown here. It is cut close, the waist has a little give, and the maker advises taking the next size up if you are between sizes or have fuller hips.
