Denim Maxi Skirt - Rope-Belt Five-Pocket | Hatherop

A denim maxi skirt cut long and lean, with a proper five-pocket waist, a gentle A-line through the body and a woven rope belt that comes with it.

The length is the whole argument. It measures 90 cm on an XS and 95 cm on an XXL from the top of the waistband, which puts the hem just above the ankle bone on most heights, so the only thing showing below it is your boot. The denim is a firm flat cotton twill with just enough give to sit properly on the waist, and the body widens only a little from the hip, about a fifth, so it reads as a column rather than a bell. Everything above the hip is built like a good pair of jeans: a flat waistband, five belt loops, one plain metal button, two curved scoop pockets with a rivet at each corner, patch pockets on the back. Wear it with a fine knit tucked in, which is what the high waist is for.

The fit

The waistband is flat and rigid, not elasticated, and it fastens with a single metal button at the centre front above a topstitched fly. Below it the body is close over the hip and then flares gently and evenly to a level hem. There is no slit and no vent: the line down the centre front is a plain sewn seam, not an opening. On the blue the topstitching is the classic contrasting tan, on the charcoal it is tonal. Six sizes, XS to XXL, which we read as UK 6-8 up to UK 16. Two things worth knowing before you choose. The waist and hip figures in the size guide next to the size selector are measurements of the garment itself, not of the body, so allow a couple of centimetres. And the run grades a little under a full UK size at a time, with XS and S only 2 cm apart at the waist, so if you are between two, take the larger.
