Faux Fur Jacket - Thurlow
A faux fur jacket that does the work of a coat without any of the ceremony. Thurlow is long in the pile and short in the body, so the volume sits at the shoulder and stops at the top of the thigh.
Design and fabric
The pile runs four to five centimetres deep and falls in soft, separate locks rather than lying flat. It is shaded rather than solid: a little deeper across the chest and the top of the sleeve, lifting to a paler tone at the collar edge, the cuffs and the hem. That gradient is what keeps a fur jacket from reading as one block of colour. A wide shawl collar rolls open into two broad pointed lapels that sit flat across the chest, and there is no fastening at all, so it hangs open the way it was cut to. Inside, a smooth woven lining slides over knitwear.
Why it works
Fur usually reads as occasion. This one does not have to. The hip length keeps it in proportion over jeans and boots, and the dropped shoulder leaves real room for a jumper underneath. Worn over something dark and simple it does the evening instead. Nothing changes but what sits under it.
