A belt with something to look at. The buckle is a near round ring in an aged brass finish, held to the strap by two small lashings of waxed thread, and at 2.8 cm the strap is wide enough to read across a pair of jeans without turning into a statement.
The cut
One even strap, 2.8 cm across, cut from a single thickness of leather and left unstitched, so the band reads as one clean line rather than a bordered ribbon. The long edges are painted and burnished a shade darker than the face, and the tail finishes in a squared tip with rounded corners. The buckle head comes in two parts: a near round pin ring, and above it a flat rectangular metal loop that wraps right around the strap. Both are in an aged brass finish, matte and lightly pitted rather than bright. A leather keeper sits behind them, fixed with one small domed stud. The adjustment holes are punched bare, with no metal eyelets to wear at the leather.
The leather
The maker lists the strap as cow leather and we quote that as given: there is no composition label on the belt, so this is the maker's description rather than a tested figure, and we claim no grade beyond it. What the photographs do show is a single full thickness of hide, with the fibrous underside visible at the tip and behind the pin. The face carries a fine natural grain and a satin sheen, and the strap arrives firm rather than soft, which is what a belt at this width should do. The buckle is finished to look like aged brass; the maker does not publish the metal, so we do not name it.
Getting the length right
This belt is sized by the length of the strap, not by a dress size, and it is cut for a trouser waistband rather than a natural waist. Measure round the place you actually want it to sit, over the clothes you will wear it with, then take the length whose waist range covers that figure. If you fall between two, take the shorter one. The full table sits in the size guide next to the size selector.
Fit
Five lengths: 90, 95, 100, 105 and 110 cm, measured from the buckle to the tip of the strap.
Our guidance: 90 cm for a 65 to 75 cm waist, 95 cm for 70 to 80, 100 cm for 75 to 85, 105 cm for 80 to 90, and 110 cm for 85 to 95. The maker publishes the strap lengths, so these ranges are ours rather than theirs.
In inches, roughly 26 to 30, 28 to 31, 30 to 33, 31 to 35, and 33 to 37.
Five punched holes, so there is room to move either side of the middle one.
Take the length that leaves you a short tail. The tail can be cut down, but that removes the finished tip, so it is better to size correctly in the first place.
