A hood and a snood, knitted as one piece

Pull it up and it is a hood. The rib closes round the face, sits high on the forehead, and the cord draws it in as far as the weather asks. Let it down and the same piece becomes a snood, a soft collar resting on the shoulders. There is no fastening to undo and no second item to lose, because the hood and the collar are knitted together.

The rib runs the whole way, fine and even, up the body of the collar and over the crown of the hood. It is a plain rib rather than a cable, and that is what lets the knit open round a head and then settle flat again on the shoulders. The tie is a knitted cord with no toggle and no stopper, threaded at the join where the hood meets the collar.

Fit

One size. The hood is cut deep enough to cover the forehead with the cord left loose, and the collar falls over the shoulders and the top of the chest, so it will sit under a coat collar or over it. The knit is a single thickness with no lining, so it goes under a hat or a hood without bulk. The maker publishes no flat measurements for this piece, so we have quoted none.
