Follow the care label on each piece. As a rule: cool wash, reshape and dry flat, keep away from direct heat.
A knitted lounge set you would happily answer the door in. Syreford puts a ribbed shirt cardigan over wide leg trousers cut from the same fine rib, in one colour throughout, so the two pieces read as a single outfit and neither of them looks stranded when you wear it on its own.
Design
The cardigan is really a shirt. It has a proper pointed collar with a stand, a button placket that runs the whole way from the collar to the hem, and small flat buttons in the same tone as the cloth, so the front stays quiet. The shoulder drops past the shoulder bone, the sleeve is long, and the cuff is a deep rib most people will turn back once. The hem is straight and sits at the top of the thigh.
The trousers are the calm half. They pull on over a deep flat rib waistband, with no fly, no zip, no button and no pockets, and the leg runs wide and straight from the hip to the hem without narrowing at the ankle. The rib is the same on both pieces and runs the full height of every panel, which is what holds the outfit together.
Fabric
A soft-touch, viscose-rich knit, light in the hand and fluid rather than heavy. The composition is given by the maker as 50% viscose, 30% polyester and 20% nylon. We print it as we were given it, because no sewn composition label came with the garment for us to read. Like most knits of this weight it will pill a little where the cloth rubs in the first few weeks, and a fabric comb takes that off in a minute.
Fit
Cut loose on purpose. The cardigan measures 116 cm around the bust at S and 124 cm at L, so it sits generously whichever size you take and it is not the piece that decides. The trousers are. The waist is a rib that stretches well past its flat measurement, and the hip is the closer of the two, so it is worth reading the hip figure in the size guide before you choose. S to L, mapped to UK 8, UK 10 and UK 12 to 14. Full measurements for both pieces are in the size guide next to the size selector.
