A shirt dress cut in knit, not cloth
Calmsden takes the shirt dress and knits it. A pointed collar, a line of tonal buttons running the whole way from the throat to the hem, and a column that falls straight from the shoulder to the ankle. The rib is fine and close, nearer a jersey than a jumper, and the cotton in it keeps the weight down. The small amount of elastane is what lets a narrow column move at all. Long sleeves taper to a plain cuff, with no band and no button to interrupt the line.
It reads as one clean vertical from collar to floor, which is the point of it. The buttons are cut in the same colour as the knit, so what you see is the line and not the hardware: flat boots and a coat through the cold months, bare arms under it when the weather turns.

- Straight column: skims the body from shoulder to hem, widening only slightly through the skirt
- Ankle length, about 125 cm from shoulder to hem on a size S
- Long sleeves to the wrist, finishing in a plain straight cuff
- The rib has a good stretch, so it sits close without pulling
