A leather belt earns its keep quietly. This one is slim, 2.6 cm across, with a brushed gold oval buckle that sits easily on a pair of jeans and pulls a shirt and trousers into shape without asking for attention.
The cut
One even strap, topstitched close to both long edges in a matching thread, with the cut edges painted and burnished to the colour of the leather. The buckle is an oval pin buckle whose straight bar is broken in the middle by two flat squared tabs, so it reads as two facing curves rather than a plain ring, and the finish is a matte brushed gold rather than a bright polish. A single stitched leather keeper takes the tail. The adjustment holes are punched bare, with no metal eyelets to wear at the leather, and the tail finishes in a soft rounded point.
The leather
The maker lists the strap as cow leather and the buckle as an alloy, and we quote that as given: there is no composition label on the belt itself, so this is the maker's description rather than a tested figure. The surface is smooth and finely grained with a soft satin sheen rather than a gloss. It arrives firm rather than soft, which is what a strap of this thickness should do.
Getting the length right

Fit
- Three lengths: 95 cm for a 65 to 75 cm waist, 100 cm for 75 to 85 cm, 105 cm for 85 to 95 cm.
- In inches, roughly 25 to 30, 30 to 35 and 35 to 40.
- Between two lengths, take the longer one. A tail tucks away; a belt that will not reach does not.
