A long wool coat with no lining and no wrong side
The cloth is a double faced wool, woven as two layers held together so that both sides come out a finished face. There is no lining and no facing. The same brushed surface runs inside and out, and the hem, the front edges and the cuffs are cut clean and closed with a fine stitch you can see if you look for it. That construction is why the coat feels soft rather than stiff, and why it falls from the shoulder and moves with you instead of holding itself away from you.
The cut is long and easy. Dropped shoulders, wide notch lapels, a double breasted front on six mottled horn look buttons, and two slanted welt pockets set at the hip. The hem lands between 117 and 123 cm from the shoulder, which is mid calf on most, and it widens as it falls: six centimetres more at the hem than at the chest, on every size. A self tie belt in the same cloth comes with it, with no loops to thread it through. Wrap it for a waist, or leave it off and let the coat hang straight.
One thing to know before you buy. With no lining, this is a coat for autumn and mild winter rather than deep cold. Worn over a jumper it carries the whole of the season, and it is lighter on the shoulders than the weight of the cloth suggests.
Fit
Cut oversized, so take your usual size. The shoulder seam sits well below the shoulder and there is room for knitwear underneath without going up. Take the size below if you want a closer line.
