Sleeveless Satin Maxi Dress with a Draped Cowl Neck
The Sudeley is a satin maxi dress built around one idea. The neckline is cut narrow and high, and the satin falls from it into a single soft cowl. Below that, nothing competes: no sleeves, no fastening, no trim. Just a long clean line down to the ankle.
Design and fabric
The satin is a smooth satin-faced weave, lustrous on the front and matte on the reverse, which is why the light runs along a fold instead of sitting flat on it. The neckline stays high and closed at the back and drapes into its cowl at the centre front. The armholes are scooped deep and low, so the shoulder is carried by a wide flat band of the same cloth. At each side seam a run of small gathers draws the waist in and fans out across the front. There is no waist seam and no zip: the dress pulls straight on over the head.
How it wears
It is long. The hem sits at the ankle, so a flat loafer reads as easily as a heel, and the whole thing disappears under a coat when the weather turns. Pecan is the warm mid brown that does most of the work, Flax the greyed gold that sits between sand and champagne, and Thyme a muted olive.
Fit
Close through the bust and waist, then released from the hip into a soft A line. The satin is woven and has no stretch at all, so if you are between sizes, or you would like a little more room through the bust, take the larger size.
