Follow the care label on each piece. As a rule: cool wash, reshape and dry flat, keep away from direct heat.
A wool beret blocked in one piece, with no seam anywhere on the crown
Most soft berets are knitted, and a knit gives: it stretches at the band, drops at the crown, and after a season it has lost the shape it was sold with. This one is felt. The body is a single piece of wool, matted and blocked into a dome, with no panels and no join to come apart. Run a thumb over it and there are no stitches to find, only a close nap that catches the light differently depending on which way you brush it.
The second half of it is inside. A padded satin band is stitched right around the opening, which is the part most berets leave out. It cushions the edge against the forehead, it holds the felt open at the right diameter, and it is why the crown still stands up after the hat has spent an afternoon in a coat pocket. The reviews that call this one structured are talking about that band.
Fit
Two sizes, given as a head circumference: 54 cm and 57 cm. Measure round your head just above the ears and take the nearer of the two. Felt does not stretch the way a knit does, so the number matters more here than on a beanie; one buyer with a large head found the 57 cm went on comfortably and another found it close, which puts the 57 cm at true rather than generous. The beret is meant to be worn tilted, pushed back off the forehead or pulled down to one side, and the depth of the crown means it will hold either.
Details
100% wool. The sewn-in care label has been photographed by a buyer and reads 100% Wool; two further buyers, writing independently in two languages, describe it the same way, and the maker's specification agrees.
Wool felt blocked in one piece. No seams, no panels, no join on the crown.
Padded satin band stitched around the inside of the opening.
Domed crown with the edge turned under. No tab at the top, no bow, no trim.
Two head sizes, 54 cm and 57 cm.
Spot clean and brush only. The maker's label says do not wash, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, do not iron, do not dry-clean.
It ships flat with a shaper inside the crown. If the felt arrives creased, hold it briefly in the steam from a kettle and press the dome back by hand. Do not iron it.
