A wool skirt with room in it. The waistband is a plain flat band that sits at the natural waist, and from the seam along its lower edge the cloth opens straight out into a wide A-line that keeps moving after you have stopped. The hem finishes at mid-calf.
Design
The waistband is one narrow flat band, closed by a single seam at its base, with no loops, no buckle and nothing on show. A zip sits in the centre back seam, which leaves the front as one unbroken piece of cloth from the waistband to the hem. There are no pockets and no vent: the width of the skirt does that work instead.
The cloth is a milled wool blend, brushed to a short soft nap and flecked through with paler fibres. It has enough body to hold the flare without going stiff, and it keeps the quiet matte surface that wool gives and a flat weave does not.
Fit
Fitted at the waist, then wide. The finished hem measures 204 cm on a size XS and 233 cm on a size XL, close to three times the waist, which is what gives the skirt its sweep. Length is taken from the top of the waistband at centre back and runs from 71 cm to 77 cm, so it sits at mid-calf on most heights. Sizes run XS to XL, which we list as UK 6 to UK 14.
