A wrap that stays where you put it
Abbotsbury is a wrap dress cut in a soft matte jersey and run long, all the way to the floor. The front crosses over into a deep V, gathers into one shoulder, and the band of cloth that comes off that shoulder sweeps down across the chest and disappears into the opposite side of the waist. The crossover is stitched in place rather than tied, so the neckline keeps the depth you chose in the mirror and there is nothing to retie halfway through the evening.
Below the waist seam the skirt opens out and keeps opening, so it swings as you walk and settles again when you stop. Long sleeves, a clean V, a hem that reaches the ground. It takes a coat and boots through the winter and holds its own at a wedding in the spring.
Fit
- Easy through the bust and shoulder, close at the waist, then full from the waist seam down
- Floor length, 135 cm from shoulder to hem on a size S, so it sits at the ankle flat and touches the ground over a heel
- Long sleeves to the wrist, close fitting, finishing in a plain hemmed cuff
- Five sizes, UK 6 to 16, in the maker's own conversion
- Cut with room: the garment measures around 10 cm more at the bust than the body it is sized for, so it skims rather than clings
- The maker says it runs true to size, and to size up if you are between two or want it looser
